Now that we are ready to make the decisions following the Tenements Act, it’s time for action.
We will have multiple independent quotes for the most necessary baseline works in the back green:
- A one-time cleanup – removing weeds, overgrown plants and other debris
- An ongoing maintenance contract to prevent weeds regrowing
Alongside this, it will be decided how much more money the owners will contribute than is necessary to cover the basic maintenance cost. The more money that is made available, the more that can be spent on other new things like new plants, chairs, or other equipment.
The costs, and any improvement funding, will be put to the owners of the twelve tenements. Once the decision is made in favour of proceeding, owners will be obliged to provide their share of the funds. With these funds, the contractor(s) will be engaged and the cleanup work will begin.
Alongside any maintenance works it we will also verify that all residents have whatever keys might be required in their own tenement to access the back green. If back doors are blocked by waste or muck, then the tenement will clear these away.
The initial set of cleanup works should take only a few weeks. It takes time to kill off weeds, but the professionals will make short work of it. Soon enough the space will be clean and clear for residents to start using it for their activities.
With the basic cleanup done, SECAB can start to look to Phase 5 – The future.
