Now that residents have this space, what would they want do with it?
There will be plenty of things that individual residents can organise by themselves.
With the residents’ community groups on the internet, it’ll be easy for residents to find other residents with the same interests like gardening, and then form groups to do these activities.
There may be some activities which would affect a much larger group of people. For instance, we may want to run community parties or BBQs. These will require a much higher level of organisation and likely funding.
There may also be works that the resident community may request to make the space even more useful. For example, for gardening purposes, we may want to think about:
- Providing new semi-permanent planters
- Installing and equipping a communal toolshed
- Creating a water source for cleaning and plant watering
- Rainwater collection from the gutters?
- Installing taps off the water main within tenements?
If we find that the 1970s design of the back green is no longer suitable, then SECAB is the right forum for owners and residents to work out and organise what they would want instead.
For owners, SECAB will make it easier for tenements to work together on larger and more expensive aspects of communal maintenance. For example, maintenance activities like clearing gutters could be spread across multiple tenements to save money.
In the event of any urgent maintenance issues arising, SECAB will provide a fast and easy way for owners and residents to get in touch to report these to the right person. SECAB will possess a list of all owners and an understanding of what flat is which in each building, so it will be easy for us to identify the specific owner of a flat when something goes wrong.
